Online counselling has still been around for over 20 years now. This form of counselling became better known during the pandemic lockdowns when isolated people were unable to physically visit their counsellor. Prior to this it was beneficial in providing a counselling option for people with mobility issues or who lived in remote areas.
Before using it as part of my placement in my degree, I didn’t think it would be effective. After doing my first few online sessions, I realised that it was just as effective as in-person. It also has many benefits that face-to-face counselling doesn’t have:
- You can be more comfortable and relaxed in their own environment
- You don’t have to rush around trying to find a car park or arrange transport
- You can save time and money by not having to travel to counselling
- Online counselling provides counselling for people in regional areas
- You can access online counselling from remote regional areas, Australia-wide
- You won’t have to sit in a waiting room and potentially be seen by other people
- You don’t have to worry about seeing anyone you might know
- Reduced cost due to counsellor not renting a room for counselling sessions
While not for everyone, online counselling is just as effective as face-to-face, and offers benefits that can make it more effective for many people. If you want to know more about online counselling at More Than This, feel free to contact me with any questions.
